The 31st Session of the ISA Council, Part I, was inaugurated on March 9, 2026, in Kingston, the capital city of Jamaica. China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Natural Resources, Permanent Mission to the ISA, China Ocean Mineral Resources R&D Association, Minmetals, Beijing Pioneer Hi-Tech Development Corporation and Changsha Research Institute of Mining and Metallurgy, dispatched personnel to the delegation. Ambassador Wang Jinfeng, head of China’s delegation and Permanent Representative to the ISA, attended the Session and delivered remarks.

Ambassador Wang said that this year marks the 30th anniversary of China's membership in the ISA. China stands ready to work hand in hand with all parties to uphold a fair and equitable international maritime order, enhance the common well-being of all humanity, and promote the building of a maritime community with a shared future.
Ambassador Wang stated that the BBNJ Agreement and international seabed institutions are both cornerstones of modern maritime order. The two sides should enhance coordination and cooperation. China has bid to host the BBNJ Secretariat in Xiamen, and hopes to receive positive support from relevant parties.
