On May 22, 2025, Amb. Chen Daojiang, China’s Permanent Representative to the ISA, bid farewell to Leticia Carvalho, Secretary-General of the ISA.
Amb. Chen commended Secretary-General Carvalho and the ISA Secretariat for their contribution to the booming development of international seabed affairs, and expressed thanks for the ISA’s long-term support for China’s participation in international seabed affairs. Amb. Chen said international seabed affairs is at a point of regulations development and critical revolution, and China will always support ISA’s position as the authority and core of international seabed affairs, and work with all parties to promote the development of mineral resource exploitation regulations in the Area to make greater contribution to the common wellbeing of humanity.
Secretary-General Carvalho spoke highly of China’s contribution and expressed thanks to Amb. Chen for his efforts in deepening bilateral high-level, high-quality, and multi-dimensional cooperation during his tour of duty. The ISA will continue to fulfill the mission mandated by the UNCLOS, and advance the cause of the deep sea.
