On July 31, 2024, China’s Permanent Mission to the ISA held the Reception for the 30th Anniversary of the ISA’s Founding. Amb. Chen Daojiang, China’s Permanent Representative to the ISA, attended the reception and delivered a speech. More than 200 guests, including the ISA Secretary-General, Michael Lodge, representatives of the delegates of the 29th Session of the ISA, Part II, and the ISA Secretariat, were present.
In his speech, Amb. Chen reviewed the ISA’s contributions to improving international seabed institutions, enhancing the knowledge of the deep sea, and implementing the principle of the common heritage of mankind, and he stressed that China would like to work with all parties to adhere to the concept of a community with a shared future for humanity and make greater contributions to advancing the international seabed cause and protecting the common welfare of all mankind.
Secretary-General Michael Lodge, Jamaica’s Under-Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade and Permanent Representative to the ISA Amb. Comfort, Ghana’s Permanent Representative to the UN and the ISA Agyeman made remarks on behalf of the ISA, Jamaican government, and the African Group respectively. They commended China’s contribution to the work of the ISA and developing countries’ capacity building.
